Hotel Uterus: August 2009

This is for you mom. Here's the view of the mountains behind our house last night. Pretty spectacular. The forrest hasn't burned in 40 years so there is lots of fuel for the fire.

You might be a red neck if....
your swimming pool consists of a rubbermaid container.
This shot below went something like this:
"Ale, hug Ke'ano"
"Ewe! Katie, he's naked!"
"Oh come on Ke'ano, he's three."
Add lots of shrieking....

Love this of Ke'ano
We made Foamerators. However, eco friendly plastic waterbottles are crap and not sturdy enough, nor is eco friendly dish soap. We'll do this again when we get some Dawn and harder plastic bottles.

Just when I thought David couldn't get any dorkier, I come home to find him way too anxious to share this with me. He's obsessed. Rob Walling, this reminds us of you!

We visited the Skirball Cutural Center today. It was free entry and they have a spectacular Noah's Ark exhibit right now. Only, we didn't actually see the exhibit. Being the free day and dealing with a waiting list and little kids...it just didn't happen. But we did eat in the museum cafe (a perk to not having to pay to get in) and make our very own Mazuzas. The boys got to pretend they were archeologists and dig in the sand. It was fun over all. Love the wall behind these photographs. Think I'll do a painting like it soon I like it so much.

I found Ale putting a stick down his back. When I asked him what he was doing he said he wanted to look like his "guy" one of his action figure toys. He was spot on.
Freezer Paper stencils, I think I'm in love. Here was the first run. All you Beatles fans will realize the image is backwards...The learning curve is always slow when I'm creating with my hands. This has opened a whole new world of tinkering. Hmm, wonder what people will be getting for christmas this year...

He doesn't know I'm watching him.
Still can't see mom with the telephoto....
So busted.
"Ale, Please don't jump on the trampoline while holding a chicken just to see what happens."

I can't believe it is already August. Summer is going so quickly. I like my weekends full. I love coming home with exhausted children knowing that day has been adventurous and full of activity.

Ale and I started today with a long overdue Mama date. We went and washed the car at a self service car wash. (High powered water guns are VERY fun for three year olds.) I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for getting a good wash on a car but it was a fun activity and much needed. We headed down to the bookstore after that. Ale said he wanted to get books about sharks. We found a few and sat ourselves down for some lap reading time. He chose one to buy and then we went to the cafe where he got chocolate milk which he insisted on waiting to drink until we arrived at our friends' pool later in the day. (He never did drink it. I found it hours later, untouched sitting in the sun. Some things are not worth waiting for).

We spent all afternoon with several friends swimming and having a barbecue. Ernesto is with us again this weekend which is fun for Ke'ano. They are currently outside in the tent. Summer sweet summer. Ke'ano spent a few hours at Neto's house last night. When David picked both boys up Ke'ano's hair was straight. Apparently my 13 year old brother in law and 10 year old son spent the evening playing beauty parlor punk style. Love it. The boys love spending their days grooming each other. What's next? Black eyeliner parties?
